International Paralympic Day 2007

On behalf of and in close co-operation with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Adjouri & Stastny planned and implemented the International Paralympic Day 2007 (IPD) in front of the Brandenburger Tor on Pariser Platz in Berlin on 23rd August 2007. Since 2003 the IPD takes place every second year with the aim to showcase the Paralympic Sport as as well as to promote the Paralympic Games.

During the lead-up to the event Adjouri & Stastny supervised the planning of infrastructure set-up and of operational procedures for the venue on Pariser Platz. Furthermore the agency was responsible for the promotion of the event as well as its communication to media, correspondents and news agencies based in Berlin. Drafting press releases as well as organising press conferences and photo shootings were part of the agency duties.

More than 42.000 visitors attended this informative sport event held under the patronage of the Federal President Horst Köhler. German and international Paralympic athletes demonstrated all day long different sports. The event was opened by the IPC President Sir Philip Craven, the Federal Minister of Justice Brigitte Zypries and the Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit. Besides numerous visitors the IPD attracted also numerous prominent guests, such as Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, the President of the Lower House of German Parliament Dr. Norbert Lammert, the figure skater Katharina Witt and other Olympic and Paralympic medal-winners. All visitors could gain their very own Paralympic experience by practicing some of the sports such as wheelchair basketball and table tennis as well as football for the blind.

Adjouri & Stastny acquired and supervised the media partners rbb Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (radio and TV), Tagesspiegel and Wall AG. As a consequence, the event was promoted by 1.000 City Light Posters, through a 12-page Tagesspiegel supplement with about 160.000 copies which was also co-ordinated by Adjouri & Stastny. rbb-TV reported live from the IPD in a broadcast lasting almost one hour. It also transmitted a summary of the day via satellite through the EVS of the European Broadcasting Union EBU to all members in Europe and associated members overseas. Professional media servicing beforehand and on site led to the result that the IPD was very well reflected in the German and international media.
